Will New Amsterdam Season 5 make a time jump when it premieres?

New Amsterdam Season 5 is one less OG character, but how will the show handle that? Will we experience the loss of Helen with Max?

Just as Sharpwin became a thing, we got the bad news. Helen Sharpe will not return New Amsterdam Season 5. It’s over for Max and Helen; At least for the moment.

Now eyes are on the premiere. How are we going to see things unfold? Where will we pick up? Can we resume right now with Max getting the call from Helen saying she didn’t get on the plane? It would mean dealing with that grieving process – and anyone who has ended a long relationship will know that it is a grieving process that results.

Some shows skip this process altogether. We end up with a time jump of about a year. For instance, the resident opted for a three-year time jump to avoid dealing with Conrad mourning the loss of Nic when Emily VanCamp’s character was killed off.

Will there be a time jump in New Amsterdam Season 5?

Will be New Amsterdam opt for a time jump to deal with Max’s grief? There is something like that. The show is going to do something similar to the Season 3 premiere, which saw some editing to tackle some of the tougher topics.

At the start of season 3, New Amsterdam found a way to handle the pandemic storyline while using superfluous scripts that had been written and filmed before the pandemic.

Showrunner David Schulner said TVLine that the series will see a montage to take us through the summer months. There’s a small time jump, but that’s to align the show with the time period we’re in right now, so the series will pick up in the fall of 2022.
