Ukrainian prisoners of war tortured in Olenivka to be used for Russian propaganda – intelligence
The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has established certain circumstances of the premeditated murder of Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian invaders in Olenivka, Donetsk region.
The relevant statement was made by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense on Telegramreports a correspondent of Ukrinform.
“The Russian side did not plan to exchange prisoners of war and, in order to conceal the inappropriate conditions and forms of interrogation faced by Ukrainian prisoners of war (which could serve as a basis of evidence for the court in The Hague) , deliberately eliminated the prisoners. According to the available data, the premises where the Ukrainian prisoners of war were held had been mined by the militants of the Wagner group, using a flammable substance, which led to the rapid spread of fire,” the report states.
According to Ukrainian intelligence, the POWs were interrogated by so-called “DPR” investigators in conjunction with the Wagner Group and the Russian Federal Security Service. The interrogators actively used physical torture and beatings.
“These measures were aimed, above all, not at receiving certain confidential data but at inflicting torture, physical humiliation and psychological demoralization in order to undermine the morale of Ukrainian defenders,” the intelligence services noted.
The Russian side expected to involve Ukrainian prisoners of war in the filming of pro-Russian video reports. The main objective was to show Ukrainian defenders who allegedly confessed to crimes and atrocities committed against civilians, renounced their opinions and condemned the actions of Ukrainian leaders.
The interrogations were carried out by conveyor but did not succeed, underlined the Ukrainian intelligence services. Ukrainian prisoners of war have shown exceptional courage and an indomitable spirit.
