Indian actor Anupam Kher, who played Dr Vijay Kapoor in “New Amsterdam,” has officially opened up about his exit from the NBC medical drama.
“This past year has been difficult for so many around the world, especially for Dr Kapoor. It was an incredibly special time for me to be a part of this show and I will never forget, ”Kher said in a statement he shared on his social media accounts. “The ‘New Amsterdam’ family will always hold a special place in my heart. I am grateful to the audience for their love, support and good wishes, especially for my wife, Kirron, at this time. I hope you will all continue to join me on my journey and my future endeavors. “
India-West had previously reported Kher’s discharge following the April 13 episode in which staff at Bellevue Hospital learned that Dr Kapoor had resigned from his post.
Season 3 saw Kapoor contract Covid-19 and undergo open heart surgery.
In real life, Kher’s wife and politician Kirron Kher has battled multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer.
In a statement released on March 31, Kher wrote that Kirron is undergoing treatment for the disease and “will come out of this situation stronger.”
“To prevent rumors from gaining ground, Sikandar and I would like to let everyone know that Kirron has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of cancer of the blood. She is currently on treatment and we are sure she will come out stronger than before. We are very happy that she is being taken care of by a phenomenal group of doctors.
