Alex Danvers and Kelly Olson are easily one of the healthiest couples on the Arrowverse, so having this episode start by bringing the adorable Esme into their house was such a great start. Seeing all the Super Friends excited to have a little cherub among them perfectly summed up how much of a family these characters are. This is consolidated when J’onn J’onzz is called the figure of the grandfather. So true.

Kelly brings Esme to her new home, and naturally Esme is thrilled to have a room and a bed to herself after spending so much time in a group home. Esme is honestly the star of this scene, telling Kara that she has her own stuffed animal, so she doesn’t need any more. Then she introduced herself to J’onn saying, “Nice to meet you,” and reaching out for a cordial shake. It melted my heart in a puddle.

Supergirl Season 6, Episode 15: Esme struggles to adjust

However, that opening scene takes an abrupt turn when Esme mimics J’onn’s Martian ability and breaks through the chamber wall. Fortunately, J’onn is quick and saves the little one. Esme begins to blame herself for not being able to control her ability to mimic alien powers. Hinting at how the houses she’s stayed in made her feel guilty for being a young alien unable to control her powers.

At the Tower, Brainy and William prepare their welcome gifts for Esme, Brainy fetching building blocks, and William bringing some of his family’s favorite meals. Alex and Kelly discuss how they worry about Esme and tell her the wrong thing because the last thing they want to do is hurt this young girl, which leads Alex to call on Brainy for help. with his infinite knowledge and powerful intellect.

Supergirl Season 6, Episode 15: Race to the Totem of Hope

In Nyxly’s ship, the audience sees Princess Imp reading William’s article about his time on Super Friends. She is offended by her portrayal in the article because she is written as the villain. His human assistant Mitch then reveals that he built a cuff with the Totem of Courage to counter the cuff that the Super Friends and Mister Mxyzptlk placed on his wrist before the 5th Dimensional Leprechaun sacrificed himself.

This means that Nyxly can now use some of her powers and manipulate the courage and fear of others. She plans to use these new powers to finally reclaim the Totem of Hope, the one she failed to do when filled with humanity.

After the Super Friends find out that Nyxly has broken into The Hague, the dynamic duo of Supergirl and Martian Manhunter arrive to stop him. Nyxly fights, starts his gauntlet, and runs away from the iconic Dutch building. Kara starts off her glove after Nyxly is gone and is told that she must inspire hope that is brighter and lasts longer than the sun.

Due to Princess Imp’s use of power in The Hague, Corto Maltese and Kaznia’s diplomats are filled with a magical fear that creates a mini cold war between the two nations. J’onn J’onzz decides to stay to help the unassigned US Secretary keep the peace while Kara returns to National City to ask Lena for help.

After failing with Brainy, Alex turns to his sister to help Esme use her powers of imitation safely and healthily. When Little Bundle of Joy finds out that Kara and Supergirl are the same person, they start with Krypton’s last super-hearing girl. Esme eventually hears people in danger and obnoxious sounds make her explode in Alex’s direction.

Supergirl Season 6, Episode 15: Nyxly’s Sneaky Plan

Back in The Hague, J’onn and the US Secretary struggle to use his Martian powers to keep the peace between foreign diplomats who are arguing with nuclear weapons at their disposal. Nyxly realizes that she will beat Supergirl of all the people on her ship at the Hope Totem Gauntlet, so she decides to steal a human from William as bait. And Princess Imp knows exactly where he will be …

Due to a conversation with her best friend Lena, Kara realizes that she might have to inspire hope without a red cape and tights, but with her words and her glasses as reporter Kara Danvers. Within Catco’s walls, Kara throws a hopeful and happy article to Andrea, but her editor shuts it down because the world is not as good as her article suggests.

Before any progress can be made, Nyxly ambushes the reliever pen and captures William. The 5th Dimensional Imp Princess poses an open threat to Supergirl, so Kryptonian brings her the Totem of Hope and Humanity or William will die, and Nyxly will unleash the powers of her cuff, which will bring countless people to being afraid and being paranoid of each other.

In the tower, we see Lena becoming more comfortable with her magical powers and her mother’s spellbook, but failing to cast a protective charm around the Totem of Humanity. We also see Brainy unable to find Nyxly’s ship to save William without passing the problematic Hope Totem Glove.

To make things right with Esme, the adorable Alex and Kelly decide to use the alien called the Truth Seeker, so Esme knows her foster mothers are being honest. They promise Esme that they will never leave her because of her powers, and Esme’s mistakes will not lessen their admiration and concern for her. It comforts Esme, especially when she hears that the women who care for her are superheroes in their own right and will protect her innocent and fragile life.

Supergirl Season 6, Episode 15: Nuclear War

Discussions between Corto Maltese and Kaznia are not appeased, and they both launch their respective shares of nuclear missiles. Supergirl, Brainiac, and Martian Manhunter stop every missile, which helps Supergirl find the inspiration entrusted to her. After the war ends and the Totem of Hope is recovered, Kara goes to the evil Imp Princess and William to save her friend and colleague.

Kara tricks Nyxly into holding the totem of hope which burns her hand, drops the totem, and distracts the villain long enough for Supergirl to melt away. This leads Kara to recover the Totem of Hope from the ground, the Totem of Courage from Nyxly and William’s wrist.

For this reason, Super Friends now have all Totems discovered and unleashed, and Nyxly has none. The team realizes that the All-Stone won’t be finished if one of the totems is destroyed, and they agree to destroy the Hope Totem since Supergirl can inspire Hope with or without a totem. Supergirl then flies the Hope Totem into the sun and destroys it.

The episode ends with Nyxly feeling that one of the totems has been destroyed and is understandably devastated. However, this devastation is shortlived when a portal opens in his ship and a package comes out of a “secret admirer”. Inside the packaging is a wristwatch that dispenses state-of-the-art armor, reminiscent of Lex Luthor’s. Considering we haven’t seen the Evil Brain since Supergirl Season 6 returned, it’s safe to say I’m very excited to see more of this wonderfully written and equally manic character.
