Ruby opens its first hotel and coworking space in Amsterdam
The Ruby Group has two extremely successful products, and their latest launch (the first in the Netherlands) combines the two. Both a design hotel and an innovative coworking space, Ruby Emma is elegant and sustainable.
A place of positive energy
Located in the Amstelkwartier district of Amsterdam, the hotel is close to the trendy De Pijp district, littered with excellent bars and restaurants. bicycles are available on site, so you can get around easily and quickly. Amsterdam Central Station is only 10 minutes by S-Bahn and the airport is only 15 minutes by car or 25 minutes by public transport. The hotel manager, Hermen Nijhuis, has extensive international experience, but was born in the Netherlands and knows the Dutch hotel market well. Hermen says: “There are already a few hotels in the booming Amstelkwarier district, but so far no real lifestyle hotels. The special sustainability of the building, which has won several awards for its innovative construction technology, and the typical Ruby ambience make Ruby Emma a place full of positive energy.
The Munich-based company opened in Amsterdam in September 2022, with 291 rooms spread over 18 floors, covering a total area of 24,230 m². Ruby’s Luuk workspaces span three floors, offering 138 workstations and expansive meeting spaces. Its interior design tells the story of the place’s pioneering role in the production and uses of energy in Amsterdam; since the first ships sailed along the Amstel. This maritime story echoes a collection of sails on the three floors of the lobby, as well as the decor of its epic twelve-meter-long bar. Ruby’s signature style is also evident in the property, with plenty of vintage furnishings and carefully selected pieces, as well as high-quality, durable building materials.
Playing a role in urban sustainability
Following Amsterdam’s commitment to sustainability, the building was constructed using energy efficiency systems; it was the first in Europe to be LEED Platinum certified in 2018 and fits perfectly into its environment. A clever shading system on the facade automatically darkens the rooms, with solar sails that retract and unfold automatically and thanks to the generation of geothermal energy, it can self-produce cold and heat.

We see this new development as an opportunity to offer business travelers a complete package to work productively during their stay. Plus, we’re creating a community of guests, businesses and local communities that meets their need for inspiration and networking. At the same time, the space potential is ideally utilized and the achievable turnover per square meter is optimized, also to the benefit of our investors and partners.
