Rotterdam Police: Woman damaged BMW, injured vehicle occupant, with baseball bat
ROTTERDAM – A Rotterdam woman used a baseball bat to damage a BMW and injure an occupant of the vehicle on Tuesday evening, police said.
The injured occupant suffered a large lump on the back of her head, as well as short-term memory loss, claims filed in court said.
Erika Sanchez, 39, of Roberta Road, was arrested after the incident and charged with second degree assault and second degree criminal mischief, felonies, and the misdemeanor of reckless endangerment.
An unidentified 16-year-old has also been charged with criminal mischief, police said.
The incident took place on Roberta Road near Arlene Street just after 7 p.m. Tuesday evening, authorities said.
Sanchez is accused of attacking the BMW with the baseball bat, smashing windows and denting it, while a total of four people were inside, according to allegations filed in court.
The injured occupant requested additional medical treatment at Ellis Hospital, the allegations were made.
Police first responded to the area for a disturbance and arrived to find people around the car and the damaged car, police spokesman Lt. Jeffrey Collins said.
Officers quickly determined that a group had come to the house based on an earlier incident that had taken place outside of town, Collins said. An altercation then ensues.
Collins had no further information on the source of the alleged dispute.
Sanchez was arrested Wednesday morning in Rotterdam City Court and released to return to court later.
