Preview: PEC Zwolle v Sparta Rotterdam
Sports Mole provides an overview of Wednesday’s Eredivisie clash between PEC Zwolle and Sparta Rotterdam, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
PEC Zwolle play host to Sparta Rotterdam Wednesday night, still looking for their first point in the new Eredivisie season.
Sparta also enjoyed an indifferent opening to the campaign, collecting just five points in as many games.
Having played the first three games without a win and conceding seven goals in the process, Sparta needed a strong response after the international break.
Henk fraser and club supporters received just that, De Kasteelheren after a 3-1 win over Fortuna Sittard with a 1-1 draw against NEC Nijmegen.
While Sparta are still in 14th place in the table, they are only three points ahead of sixth-placed FC Utrecht.
Sven Mijnans has become the club’s star man in the last two games, with the 21-year-old contributing one goal and two assists.
However, Sparta have now made seven appearances without keeping their clean sheet, a record dating back to May 13.
Zwolle’s opponents conceded two goals less than the visitors, an impressive return considering they have already faced outspoken goalscorer Ajax.
Still, not scoring more than two goals in a game this season will continue to mean nothing unless they can be on the scoresheet at the other end.
Cheeky Slobodan Tedic failed to score in 412 minutes, but Art Langeler will insist that his entire team share responsibility for their current fate.
Despite their recent setbacks, Zwolle will move within two points of Sparta if they can secure a win on the table on Wednesday.
PEC Zwolle Eredivisie form:
Shape of Sparta Rotterdam Eredivisie:
Dean Huiberts and Daishawan redan are both looking for opportunities in Zwolle’s starting lineup.
Kenneth paal and Elikia Mbinga seem more likely to drop out of the team, while Gervane Kastaneer is another option in the final third after three successive exits from the substitutes’ bench.
Zwolle still has to do without the trio of Shovel Clement, Sai van Wermeskerken and Mustafa Saymak.
Eighteen years Emmanuel Emegha could enter Sparta’s starting lineup after impressing from the international break.
A start for the teenager would probably see Lennart Thy descend deeper, with Mario engels also vying for a chance in a creative role.
Possible starting composition of PEC Zwolle:
Lamprou; Polen, Kersten, Voet, Nakayama; Strieder, belt; Redan, Huiberts, Reijnders; Tedic
Possible starting line-up from Sparta Rotterdam:
Okoye; Abels, Heylen, Vriends, Pinto; Auassar, Osman; Mijnans, Thy, Crooij; Emegha
We say: PEC Zwolle 1-2 Sparta Rotterdam
We think Wednesday night could be the time Zwolle finally makes it on the scoresheet. However, Sparta appears to be trending upwards, and that is enough for us to predict an away win for the visitors by an odd goal in three.
