One dead after Rotterdam sees 2 shootings, stabbing overnight

Two separate shootings and a knife attack took place in Rotterdam on Saturday evening. The unrelated incidents left one victim dead and one slightly injured.

One person died after a shooting on Tiendplein in the city center around 10:20 p.m. An emergency operation on the street and an urgent trip to the hospital were unfortunately unsuccessful, police report.

The shooting took place near the Amore restaurant, according to Rijnmond. Those eating in restaurants in the area were lying on the ground when they heard the gunshots.

“Someone said: it’s fireworks. But I said: no, it’s a bombardment,” said a witness in Rijnmond. She said six or seven shots were fired. “It was loose shots that didn’t feel like an automatic firearm.”

It is not known what preceded the shooting. Police have not made any arrests so far, but are investigating the scene and talking to witnesses. Anyone who attended the event is asked to come forward.

Another shooting took place on Saturday evening in the Stampioenstraat in Rotterdam. Police say a lot is still unclear, but are certain no one was hurt in the incident. One or more parked cars were shot down. No arrests have been made so far.

Around 3 a.m. on Sunday, a man was slightly injured in a stab wound on the Kortelijnbaan in Rotterdam. Police arrested another man shortly thereafter. A fight between several people preceded the stabbing.
