The RIVM public health institute received 8,713 positive coronavirus test reports within 24 hours until Wednesday morning, but that includes some cases from Tuesday that were not included at the time due to computer issues.

Only 5,373 new cases were reported to the RIVM on Tuesday, bringing the two-day average to 7,000. This is some 900 less than the average number of cases over the past seven days, indicating that the increase in number of new cases may have slowed down.

Most of the new cases occurred in Rotterdam with 492, followed by Amsterdam (351) and The Hague (290).

The number of people treated in the hospital increased slightly to reach 2,611, including 814 in intensive care. It’s the 12e day in a row that the number of IC patients exceeded 800.

The RIVM also said it expected one million people between the ages of 18 and 60 who were vaccinated against the coronavirus due to underlying health issues to now be treated a week ahead of schedule.

The early delivery of nearly two million Pfizer vaccines means the process can start in the second week of May.
