Dutch online messaging service MessageBird takes over SparkPost, a messaging platform used to deliver around 40% of all commercial emails globally. The two companies have had a partnership since 2019.

MessageBird is paying just under 500 million euros ($ 600 million) for SparkPost and will fund the deal after extending its Series C funding round from the $ 200 million announced in October to $ 1 billion.

MessageBird was founded in 2011 and is headquartered in Amsterdam. The company focuses on business-to-consumer communications and currently serves more than 20,000 customers and operates in nine hubs around the world.

Last month, MessageBird bought two companies: the 24Sessions video conferencing platform and the Hull customer data platform. The latter offering gives MessageBird access to top SparkPost customers, including JP Morgan, PayPal, Disney, Zillow, Adobe, LinkedIn and Pinterest.

“It will be a full integration,” Vis told Parool in an interview. “I don’t believe if the takeovers are separate entities.

Other takeovers could also be considered. “We have enough capital and the market is moving very quickly,” he said. “Covid has stepped up something that’s hard to stop. More and more people are working from home but need to stay in touch with their businesses and customers. This is where we can play a role. ”
