Latrobe graduate Jake Biss will play professional basketball in the Netherlands

By the time the second week of August rolls around and summer begins to head into fall, Jake Biss will also be ready to change seasons and uniforms.

He will be on his way to the Netherlands to start his professional basketball career.

Biss, a former Latrobe and Shippensburg standout guard, has signed a one-year deal to play for club Den Helder Suns in Den Helder, just outside Amsterdam.

The Suns play in the BNXT League, which includes teams from Belgium and the Netherlands. The 21-team league has been around for one season, debuting in 2021-22.

The BNXT League was born from the merger of the Belgian and Dutch professional leagues.

“It means a lot,” Biss said of extending her career beyond college. “It was a childhood dream to play professionally and to be able to say I’m a professional basketball player now is a pretty cool feeling.

“I’m excited to get out there and start.”

Biss recently signed with agents Jan Lugtenberg and Misch Engel, who are with Court Side based in Europe.

He averaged 16.9 points, 3.7 assists and 1.4 steals, while shooting 38% from 3-point range in his final season at Shippensburg.
