International conference on providing legal aid to Ukraine to be held on July 14 – Ukrainian envoy
MOSCOW (UrduPoint News/Sputnik – July 13, 2022) Ukraine’s Ambassador to the Netherlands Maksym Kononenko said on Tuesday that The Hague will host an international conference on July 14 involving 20 foreign and judicial ministers to ensure justice in Ukraine and provide practical assistance in Kyiv, without specifying which states intend to join the event.
“Representatives of many states, international organizations and judicial bodies will meet on July 14 in The Hague to deliberate on the practical assistance that Ukraine needs,” Kononenko told Ukrainian media portal Ukrinform.
The conference will be an important step in Ukraine’s fight on the legal front, as more than 20 foreign ministers, justice ministers and attorneys general from various countries have already confirmed their participation, the diplomat said.
“Today we see a lot of goodwill, we see a lot of good intentions, everyone pretends to be ready to help Ukraine.
But in this matter, few countries are ready to send their experts or provide equipment to work on the ground, France, the Netherlands,” he said.
Previously, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova said that a mission of French police and health services of the French armed forces, representatives of the prosecution of the International Criminal Court, as well as Slovak forensic experts were already working in Ukraine. In addition, Austria and Ukraine signed a memorandum on joint investigations into war crimes.
On March 7, the United Nations’ International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague opened hearings into a lawsuit filed by Ukraine, which demanded “provisional measures” to end the Russian military operation. On March 16, the ICJ ruled that Moscow should “immediately suspend” the military operation in Ukraine.
