French bakery + Café, Maman, Opening at the 81st and in Amsterdam
French bakery and café Maman will open at 429 Amsterdam Avenue between 80th and 81st streets on Monday, October 25. This space was once home to Vai, which closed in the summer of 2019 after 12 years on the UWS.
A smooth opening will take place at Maman on Saturday, where visitors can “pay as they please” from 8 am to 4 pm – 100% of the profits going to Welcome Baby, an organization that offers low-income mothers a complete package containing everything. that she and her newborn baby need.
This will be Mom’s tenth store to open in the city. Mom opened her first store in 2014 when founders Benjamin Sormonte and Elisa Marshall moved to Soho. They now have locations throughout downtown Manhattan, as well as a couple in Brooklyn. They recently opened a store on the Upper East Side.
Mum offers sandwiches, salads, breakfast platters, plenty of coffees and teas, but they’re probably best known for their nutty chocolate chip cookie, which has garnered high acclaim from the press.
While I’m not sure they can beat Levain in any type of cookie contest, the title of a 2019 article published by Secret NYC indicated that these cookies could be the best in town, and they have received the same admiration from Grub Street, Food & Wine, and even Oprah (she complimented the other cookies they have too).
These cookies will be available alongside a new fall menu, which will feature elements from Mom’s recently released cookbook – including a lost croissant topped with cinnamon applesauce and toasted nuts with honey and butter. brown and their roasted carrot soup.
