Local athlete Mick Fogarty broke his personal best in the Rotterdam marathon last Sunday.

Fogarty of Athlone, and member of Ferbane AC, recorded a sensational time of 2 hours and 31 minutes on the 26.2 mile course in the Netherlands.

Not far behind, Paul Buckley, colleague of Ferbane AC, clocked 2.38, while Paul Conlon of Ferbane AC came home in 2.46.

Fogarty, who has been in extremely impressive form this year, was the second man in the over 40 category, while Buckley was the third man over 45.

Congratulating all three athletes, Ferbane AC said: “When you factor in the fact that there were almost 11,000 finishers that day, that puts a bit of context into what the guys have accomplished.

“The trio have transferred their excellent home form to the European stage and the club are extremely proud of their success. Good job guys.”
