Couple rescued after nighttime off-road adventure on Drummond Island

DRUMMOND ISLAND, MI – A couple have been rescued from a remote area of ​​Drummond Island after spending several hours lost in the wilderness.

Despite the remote location, one of the people had intermittent cell phone service and was able to connect with central dispatch in Chippewa County by the early evening of Wednesday, December 2. Dispatchers have obtained the general location of the lost couple.

Sheriff’s assistants and US Border Patrol officers responded to the scene and began a search using a drone and all-terrain vehicles. The couple were found safe by sheriff’s deputies on an ORV just before midnight.

Drummond Island Fire and Rescue Service and Sault Tribe Police also attended the scene.
