Belgian suspect arrested after finding dead Briton in Amsterdam
Police have arrested a 22-year-old Belgian in connection with the discovery of a dead man who was found outside the front door of a house in Amsterdam‘s Singel on Wednesday, police said. The man is believed to be involved in the death of the victim, a 22-year-old man from the UK.
The suspect was presented to an investigating judge on Friday afternoon. During the hearing, the suspect was placed in police custody for two weeks while the investigation continues.
Police said earlier they believe a crime led to the death of the man due to the injuries inflicted on the victim. Early Wednesday morning, police received a report from a bystander who said they saw a man covered in blood. An attempt to revive the victim was unsuccessful.
The investigation showed that the victim was still alive shortly before and that she had wandered around the vicinity of Korte Nieuwendijk, Spuistraat, Singel and the city’s central station. Investigations have so far suggested the man was killed between 2.15am and 3.30am.
Police are still looking for witnesses and evidence, including a dark man’s jacket that may have blood on it, and a black bag. The jacket probably has a camouflage pattern. An investigation showed that the bag was on Wednesday morning on Stationsplein in Amsterdam, according to the police.
