Balenciaga opens its first store at Amsterdam Schiphol with Lagardère Travel Retail

NETHERLANDS. Balenciaga and Lagardère Travel Retail have opened the first store in a European airport for the luxury brand, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol Lounge 2. The airside store offers women’s and men’s shoes, bags, accessories, eyewear and jewelry .

The design is based on Balenciaga’s “Raw Architecture” concept, which presents an unfinished or ongoing look. The concrete facade is not primed and appears weathered, marked with a luminous Balenciaga logo. It opens with a matching cylindrical column and rough, colorless surfaces with patinas inspired by construction sites and gutted buildings. A poured concrete slab floor is textured to resemble an exterior sidewalk in appearance and feel.

The walls are paneled with aged concrete or covered with mottled concrete gray curtains. A steel grid ceiling suspended from industrial lighting reveals the technical infrastructure of the store. Aluminum shelves, displays, worn leather seats, and distressed hanger bars add to the atmosphere of decay and renewal, providing a stripped back backdrop to showcase the brand’s latest collections.
