Anies Baswedan meets Rotterdam mayor to discuss inflation and water issues

TEMPO.CO, JakartaGovernor of Jakarta Anies Baswedan was visited by the Mayor of Rotterdam, the Netherlands, Ahmed Aboutaleb, and his delegation at the City Hall in Central Jakarta this morning August 29th. Anies said he discussed the current challenges of the two cities.

“From inflation to dealing with water issues and food issues. We have very broad discussions,” he said in a written statement, Monday August 29, 2022.

Jakarta and Rotterdam, he said, face the same challenges and problems since both cities are located on the coast and have to deal with sea levels.

The two city leaders also discussed what will be met in the future after the COVID-19 pandemic and possible collaboration. Jakarta, Anies added, has sent representatives to the Netherlands.

“They can gain experience on water management as a contribution to our team,” the former education and culture minister said.

Anies Baswedan and Ahmed also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding the Dutch Training and Exhibition Program (DUTEP) and an exchange of ideas between Jakarta-Rotterdam to address challenges and find common solutions.

The Jakarta Provincial Government has assured that 12 municipal leaders or representatives from G20 countries will attend the Urban 20 or U20 Mayors Summit in JakartaAugust 30 and 31, 2022.
